Module 3: DNA Databases and Sequence Queries

Species-specific Databases

Human Genome Project (HGP) module 3 contents Databases of sequence sets back to the index of modules

The following list shows some of the species-specific database sites compiled in the server at Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada.
  • Mouse: The Mouse Genome Informatics Database provides integrated access to data on the genetics, genomics and biology of the laboratory mouse.
  • Horse: This Veterinary Genetics laboratory site provides information on equine genetics.
  • Dog: The Dog Genome Project is a collaborative study involving scientists at three institutions aimed at producing a map of all the chromosomes in dogs.
  • Fruit fly: The Berkeley Drosophila Genome Project (BDGP) is a consortium of the Drosophila Genome Center, the goals of which are to finish the sequence of the euchromatic genome of Drosophila melanogaster to high quality and to generate and maintain biological annotations of this sequence.
  • Nematode: The C. elegans Genome Project is a collaboration between the Sanger Center and the Genome Sequencing Center at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. This server provides access to information, sequences and analysis tools for the study of C. elegans.
  • Arabidopsis: The Arabidopsis Information Resource (TAIR) provides genomic and literature data about Arabidopsis thaliana.
  • Rice: This server provides analysis tools for rice cDNA sequences.
  • Grains: The GrainGenes project is a compilation of molecular and phenotypic information on wheat, barley, oats, rye, and sugarcane.
  • Hemophilus: The Haemophilus influenzae Rd genome is the first genome of a free living organism to be completed. This page offers access to the latest versions of the sequence data and related annotation.
  • E. coli: The UW Genome Project is a genome research center originally established to complete the sequence of the Escherichia coli K-12 genome. This project maintains and updates the annotated sequence.
  • Malarial parasite: This site is maintained by Sanger Centre in UK for the genome sequencing project of Plasmodium falciparum.
  • Viruses: This is a compilation of virus databases online and is maintained at the Australian National University in Canberra.
